Why I wanted to Be A School Leader

Hi my name is Russell and I wanted to be a school leader because I remember the school leaders being my role models and they helped with the little kids and that’s what I wanted to do.

What I Learnt At National Young Leaders Day

-Be kind.

-Always do the right thing even if you stand alone.

-Stand up for your rights.

-You never know what’s around the corner.

-If you’re stuck try every possibility because one is bound to work.

            

Main point

The main point for me was;

Real integrity is doing the right thing, knowing that nobody is going to know whether you did it or not.

So at school I will try to remember to not let my friends make choices for me. I will always choose what’s right and not change that decision. I will stick up for people and they should stick up for me.

I always have a friend to go to.

Abbi's Leadership Message

Ki ora, my name is Abbi and I am a leader at E.H.S (Easten Hutt School). On the 23/5/11 all the leaders of E.H.S and many other schools went to Wellington to the Leaders Day. What inspired me there was the people that came and what they had done. What I have learnt is that being a good leader is not about the fame or the fortune! It's about helping people and enjoying that. I also learnt that leaders come in all shapes and sizes! The reason I wanted to become a leader was I really like helping others.

The lesson I learnt most was that if you want to be a leader, you have to do what is best, not always what you would rather do!

My Leaders Education

Ki ora my name is Ruby and I am a year 6 at Eastern Hutt School!

When I was a year 5 I was in love with wanting to be a leader so much, that of course I applied to be a leader  for the school. After a while I got the news "YES" I am a leader.





On Monday the 25 of May the leaders and I went to the National Young Leaders' Day. I learnt some of the friends you hang out with  may have the wrong influence on you and also Jamie Fitzgerald told us never give up on your dreams of doing something.

As a leader I would like to say "Always get back up and keep on going!"

Alice's Leadership Message

Hi, I'm Alice
I am 10 years old and I love being a leader at EHS. I wanted to be a leader here because I love helping people and making a difference in this school is what I've always wanted to do.




One of the very inspiring pieces of advice at NYLD was when Pat Buckley said that life is a journey and every choice you make has consequences. I also learnt that you should enjoy being a kid and don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.

The main message in this is that your education will prepare you for the future and people should follow their dreams. 

Leaders' Day

Hi my name is Sarah. I am 11 years of age. I am in Room G3 at Eastern Hutt school.

I wanted to be a leader so I can help the school stay environmentally friendly, and help with all the different programmes our school runs like chalk day, sausage sizzle and lunch time activities. I love spreading good news around the school. I give up lunch times to do things that need or should be done around the school.

On Monday 23rd of May, the Eastern Hutt school leaders went to the NYLD(National Young Leaders'
Day) where five leaders came to speak to us. There were hundreds of other schools from the lower North Island area.

A few things that inspired me were: be friendly, say a good word, be encouraging, be yourself, share, everyone has tough times, being top of everything doesn't mean you are a leader, stop and think!

The main leadership for me would be try your best, and believe in yourself!

Lessons On Leadership! - By Cameron

Hi my name is Cameron and I am a leader at Eastern Hutt School. I wanted to be a leader so I could learn and teach others the responsibilities of leading, setting a good example and being a good person.

On Monday the 23 May, representatives from a number of Lower North Island schools went to the National Young Leaders' Day where we learnt a lot of important lessons.

Some examples of these are......

*Make your own decisions! Don't let others choose them for you.
*Never give up! If you put your mind to what your goal is you can achieve a lot.
*Stay safe online! Only put in the minimum amount of information needed to ensure you keep safe.

The main leadership message I would like to apply to myself as a leader is .....

The Best Day Ever! - Louie

Hi I am Louie and I wanted to be a leader because I wanted to help other students around the school. I've  always wanted to host assemblies too. I like being a role model for younger children and show this by being involved in lots of school activities.

I really enjoyed watching the Laughing Samoans. They were 2 really funny men. My favourite part was the Cinderella and the 7 Dwarfs, get it? It was meant to be Snow White! I was inspired by the information about the X Factor - 'Say a good word, be friendly and be yourself!'




I was really inspired by Jamie Fitzgerald who said to succeed, you never give up!

You don't have to be the best at something to be a leader - just be yourself!

NYLD Jemima

Hi I am Jemima. I wanted to be a leader because I'm a great problem solver! When there is a problem I always find a way to solve it. I play a few sports and try to lead by example on and off the field.

My favorite speaker at the NYLD was Jamie Fitzgerald who walked across the South Pole. He told us that you never know what's around the corner, and that sometimes when you think you're making the least progress - you're making the most progress. So never give up!

Being a leader at EHS this year, I'd like to set a good example, be kind, helpful and encourage everyone to always be the very best they can - in everything they set out to do!

National Young Leaders' Day - Bradley

Kia Ora, my name is Bradley Newson and I am an Eastern Hutt School leader. I wanted to be a leader because I enjoy working with a group of people and I also want to make our school as good as it can be.

When I went to National Young Leaders' Day, Andrea Deely said that leadership is not about being the best at everything. Also Jamie Fitzgerald said that when times get tough, keep going! That inspires me to keep going and be a good leader.

The leadership message that I would like to apply is to never give up even if things aren't going my way.

National Young Leaders' Day - Emily

Hi, I am Emily and I am in A2. I wanted to be a leader because I care about Eastern Hutt and I want to make it a better school for the future and also for a fun experience.

WHAT I LEARNT AT YOUNG LEADERS' DAY:
-Your choices shape your life
-Don't let your past shape your future
-Leadership can take many shapes and sizes
-Sometimes when you are making the least progress, you're actually making more
-You always have a choice

I learnt that you don't have to be cool to impress other people. Being unique is fine.

INSPIRING:
We often feel pressured to do things we don't want to do. At school I am going to make decisions for myself and not listen to anyone else.

As a leader I would like to say even if you don't fit in, be yourself, be different, be friendly and be unique!

About the Logos

Alice's logos were ... 'Stay on the Turf, Save our Earth' and 'Stay in the Groove, Keep on the Move'
Louie's logo was ... 'Be Cool, Walk to School'.

I chose these logos on the sign because I care for the environment. If we keep up littering and polluting then we will be living in a pile of waste. Both the signs mean something to everyone and anyone can save the planet by doing little things. Everyone can make a difference in the world, just by taking one small step!

Walk to School - Decorated Gate Competition

 

In March, we held a 'Walk to School Day' as part of Greater Regional Wellington's Movin' March Week to encourage lots of children and their families to walk to school. We entered the 'Decorated Gate' Competition and we were very excited to hear that we had won! This means we now have $1000 of Dulux Paint to go towards painting our next school mural! They really liked the logos that we put on our signs. We hope you all had fun walking and scootering to school!!
